WWII 70th Anniversary

I was reading today's news in CNN and came along some WWII news. It turns out that today is the 70th Anniversary of the Second World War, as it is generally held to be September 1, 1939. Just to let you know, in case you didn't already (like me). One of the articles talks about the commemoration of the anniversary in Poland. Also, while reading the articles I found how useful this class can be as, besides knowing more on the history of each war, they mentioned some important leaders that we saw in class today, one being the German chancellor Angela Merkel. Before today's class I didn't know her name and I didn't even know that Germany was governed by a woman, and I know more about some international leaders. Both articles talk about WWII in Poland, and has some testimonies from actual Polish WWII veterans. Here they are:

There is one peculiar fact that I found during my further investigation of your post: The Polish President described the Soviets' acts during WWII as a "stab in the back." Needless to say, relations between Poland and Russia are a bit tricky due to a difference of opinions regarding the historical interpretations of events at the start of the war. It is funny how we, young people, think of WWII as something that hapenned long ago, something currently unimportant, and yet, we can still trace back some of today's occurrences to an event that is 70 years old.

The complete articles is quite interesting and short. I advise you to read it and tell me what you though of it:

I didn't know it was WWII 70th anniversary. I made some research and I found how important it is to people who lived more closely what WWII was. What I found was a video about evacuees that reunited in London. They were evacuated from their homes two days before Britain declared war on Germany.
