Global Warming

Warm.jpg

A variety of environmental problems now affect our entire world. As globalization continues and the earth's natural processes transform local problems into international issues, few societies are being left untouched by major environmental problems.

The reason that I wanted to make a post about the environmental problems is because now days, all the institutions are involve in ecological programs. We too in the school, now we have a trash only for paper, a trash only for inorganic trash. And not only that, the school now is trying to stop the use of paper when it is not necessary.

Also in the world there are certain movements that try to help or to sole the situation. The artist are writing now music about the important of the environment.

The globalization in certain way has augmented the ecological problems, as green organizations says. But even if the situation is quite dangerous and bad for the planet and for the people, there is possibility to solve all this. But this needs the action of every one.

And then there were none...

Global warming isn't new. Everybody knows about it, everybody talks about it. It is no secret. But how long will it be before we see actual consequences? In the past years, we have heard various news about the polar ice caps melting, and worldwide pollution, and we have seen various initiatives being implemented by some governments and non-governmental organisations. According to the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), global warming will be unstoppable, therefore irremediable, if the world doesn't commit to green technologies by 2014... that's a little more than 4 years from now.

According to their research, total greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are estimated at 463 parts per million. And we are dangerously close to 475 ppm, point at which according to studies reversing the damages will be impossible, and runaway climate changes will be more likely. But if we can get to a comfortable spot of 400 ppm, we will be able to prevent massive damage and worldwide catastrophes.

And now, we start to see the consequences. According to a study by the University of Ohio, the ice and snow caps of mount Kilimanjaro are disappearing. If current conditions persist, Kilimanjaro's glaciers will be gone within the next 20 years. The plateau shrank (melted) 85% when compared to 1912. And 26% of this shrinkage happened in the last 8 years. The disappearance of Mount Kilimanjaro's ice caps would have an effect on Tanzania's economy, as it welcomes around 40000 visitors each year. But more concerning is the fact that if we don't do something today, not only these ice caps will be gone, but global warming will be unstoppable.

Global Warming

Over time, the climate has always variety and it is a big problem. The problem with the climate change is that in the last years these variations had increase and accelerate brutally, to the point that it is affecting the world life. Looking for the cause of this variation, scientist discovered that was in the relationship of the climate change and raise of the green house gas. This climate change is called global warming. Now days, global warming has convert in one of the biggest problems in the world.

First of all global warming is not only a climate change, it is too the result of the raise of temperature in the world and in the oceans. Green house effect exists to control the temperature of our planet and it can maintain good. The atmosphere is layer that covers the Earth. Its function is to capture some of the sun gases and help them maintain the temperature of the planet to have an average temperature of 15°C. These gases are carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrogen oxide, ozone, and other gases. This is called the green house effect. If this does not exists the temperature of our planet will fall -18°C. A correct portion of the green house gases help this effect to be correct, but if the gases increase the sun rays are not be able to go out of the earth. Now, thanks to the raise of carbon dioxide (CO2), that is produce especially by fossil fuels and other industrial fuels, the green house effect has been intensified.

If this happens the temperatures will increase. If the temperatures increase many things can happen. One of them is that the poles will melt. This makes the sea lever augmented. If the sea level augmented 6 meters more, places like Miami, Florida, Beijing, Shangai, and other beaches will disappear. More precipitation will be presented because the ocean water will evaporated. With a lot of precipitation the sea lever can raise. Drought is another consequence of this. With not sufficient water humans can be damage.

The green house effect gases are increasing because of many daily actions things. One is the burning of fossil fuels. This is provoked by many fabrics. Imagine all the fabrics that produce these gases every day, in every hour and in the entire world. The logging off the trees is one of the causes of global warming. The trees absorbed carbon dioxide, one of the gases of the green house effect. By absorbing carbon dioxide, it is helping the planet to have less of these gases. With fewer trees this gas will not be able to be absorbed. The population growth is another important cause. With more population, the demand increases, so more resources such as water, food, and natural resources are needed.

Also humans contributed in the causes of the green house effect. Because of their actions global warming is increasing. These actions are like leaving electronic advices on when they are not use, not recycling, not buying biodegradable things and other actions that does not affect our world.

This is a big problem that each day is affecting all humans, by intervening in their living conditions. Also, they are affected in a progressive way, because with the days is becoming worst and it does not have a back turn. Humans are the very responsible of this action and are the most affected.

Humans can help in many ways to stop the green house effect. One important thing is to buy ecologic bulbs. This is because the normal bulbs spend a lot of energy. Energy produce heat and this became part of one of the causes. Turning off electronic devices is a very important action. Most of the time humans like to leave their computers or laptop on. Some other people have the TV always on without watching it. Disconnect all the things you can when you are not using them. Taking a shower with cold and not with hot water is another good action. Sharing the car is a good option. With this people does not produce more gases that can affect the earth. Buying electric cars or Diesel cars will help because these type cars does not produce damage gases. Make sure the wheels of your car are full of air, so they do not make touch with the floor and to stop heat.

Humans can help controlling this green house effect by buying ecologic bulbs, use less the car, turn off the electronic devices, and other actions. This problem is being produce by many bad actions such as population growth, log of trees and burning of fossil fuels. Global warming has become one of the most popular problems in the last few years and humans have to act now.

Help our world. Ecology is in crisis too.

As we may already know, we're not suffering an economic crisis only, our ecology is in crisis too. Are you helping our world to heal? World leaders are, we should be too.

World leaders have been occupied looking for answers to improve our environmental situation. They had had several meetings at the General Assembly in which they have done great progress arguing about major issues as:
  • Economic Crisis
  • Nuclear Disarmament: "We continue the march for a world without nuclear weapons.” -Council
  • Climate Change

Some of the points they talked about in climate changes are:
  • The need to limit the global average temperature rise to a maximum of 2 degrees Celsius with most vulnerable countries pushing for an even more stringent 1.5-degree limit.
  • China said it would be prepared to take additional actions to reduce energy intensity in the context of an international agreement.
  • They should be 5 per cent reduction in greenhouse gases by 2020.
  • “At long last, leaders focused on climate change financing and got more concrete, with many expressing support for the proposal for $100 billion annually over the next decade for concrete adaptation and mitigation actions,” Mr. Ban said.
The European Union is also involved. Mr. Ban announced its support for a fast track funding facility for adaptation and their readiness to provide €5 billion to €7 billion to get it started.
