eru's supreme court on Wednesday sentenced ex-President Alberto Fujimori to six years in prison for authorizing illegal wiretaps and bribing congressmen and journalists. Fujimori, who was president from 1990 to 2000, also will pay fines of more than 24 million new soles (U.S. $8.4 million) to the state and 3 million new soles (U.S. $1 million) to the victims of the wiretaps, the court said. The disgraced former president pleaded guilty to the charges Monday. The sentencing marked the conclusion of fourth and final case that Fujimori faced since being extradited to Peru from Chile in 2007. According to prosecutors, in 1990, Fujimori and his then-spy chief, Vladimiro Montesinos, used public funds to set up surveillance centers to intercept phone conversations of people deemed a threat to his rule. In 1999, in the run-up to a controversial campaign for a third term, Fujimori ordered Montesinos to buy a television broadcaster and a newspaper to push the party line, prosecutors said. Indonesia quake kills 75 people
Major earthquake in Indonesia killed at least 75 people Wednesday, according to a Red Cross disaster report, citing an official report from the country's vice president. Earlier in the day an official said the quake toll was at least 21, with hundreds more injured. Thousands may be trapped by collapsed buildings and houses, said Rustam Pakaya, the head of Ministry of Health's crisis center. He said 75 people were seriously injured. The quake caused widespread power and phone outages, making it difficult to assess the scope of the damage. It struck at around 5 p.m. local time, about 33 miles (53 kilometers) from Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra. Padang is home to more than 800,000 people. The earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.6, according to the U.S Geological Survey, caused widespread power and phone outages, making it difficult for authorities and aid organizations to evaluate damage. "The situation is quite devastating," said Amelia Merrick, the operations director for World Vision Indonesia. "Bridges have gone down, phone lines are in total disrepair; it's difficult for us to assess the situation," she said. The organization had said it would send assessment teams to the area Thursday morning. "We know there's no electricity tonight... many of the families will be spending the night outdoors, in pitch black. I'm very afraid of what might happen next," she said, referring to the possibility of aftershocks.
Iran broke law by not revealing nuclear facility
Iran broke international law by not disclosing sooner its recently revealed uranium enrichment site, the head of the United Nation's nuclear watchdog agency said. But the U.N. does not have credible evidence that Iran has an operational nuclear weapons program, Mohamed ElBaradei of the International Atomic Energy Agency said Tuesday. "Iran has been on the wrong side of the law in so far as to inform the agency at an earlier date," ElBaradei told CNN's sister station in India, CNN-IBN. "Iran was supposed to inform us on the day it was decided to construct the facility. They have not done that." Still, he said, "I do not think based on what we see that Iran has an ongoing nuclear weapons program.Iran has previously denied breaking the law. "According to the [IAEA's] current governing rules, there was no urgency in reporting anything about this installation and we could have not announced it, but we did so on order to contribute to trust-building and transparency and we did so much sooner than the required time," Ali Akbar Salehi, director of the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency, said Sunday.
IMF warns of further recession risks
Banks round the world have still to reveal about half of their likely losses resulting from the financial and economic crisis, the International Monetary Fund said on Wednesday, warning that there was still a "significant" risk of another downward lurch in the global recession. The IMF described credit risks as remaining "elevated" even though financial conditions have improved significantly since spring. It said these risks, alongside weakened banks, were likely to depress the availability of new credit and damp the global economic recovery unless significant additional capital was raised to improve the health and lending capability of banking systems.
Pressures increase on Obama over Afghanistan
President Obama is under increasing pressure to decide whether the United States will commit more troops and resources to the conflict in Afghanistan. On Tuesday, the head of NATO met with the president and endorsed Obama's plan to fine-tune the strategy for Afghanistan before deciding on whether to deploy more troops. The meeting comes a day before Obama is scheduled to discuss Afghanistan strategy with his national security team. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs backed up Rasmussen's assessment. "If the policy takes time to get right, then that's what the president intends to do," he said at the White House briefing Tuesday. "I think he owes that to the men and women in uniform that are there." Gibbs said any decision will not be political, and that the president is "happy to hear the back and forth from both sides of this," but is going to take his time to "decide what is right for the American people." I think that this is a huge controversie because as we can see the conflic with Afghanistan is not getting better and the number of trops killed is only getting higher.

What were the economic crisis causes?
As we all know in this times we're all suffering an economic crisis. I read an article of what caused the economic crisis and it was really interesnting because it says that the cause of the crisis can be sum up in one word that is GREED. And this happened when everything was ok the houses were being sold at really high prices, prices were going up like every month. and the lenders borrowed money more easily, and these was really good for them because they gain more money because of interet or if not they cold keep the thing they bought like the house and sell it to a higher price. But all this shocked when many of their costumers couldn't afford their payments and all this become a problem.
