Goldstone Report

Israel has lately been involved in a new turmoil since the appearance of the Goldstone Report which accuses Israel of having committed war crimes during the Gaza War last winter. Curiously, though the report acusses Hamas of violating human rights as well, Israel has been the main focus in all this matter. U.N.'s Human Rights Council has taken this case after a vote for adopting the report was made. Mexico was one of the 47 members that abstained from giving its vote. Israel expressed its gratitude to our country for adopting that position and asked Mexico to continue supporting Israel in future meetings.
Israel has been pressured and adviced to conduct an independent investigation, but the Israeli has refused, claiming the report is nothing but biased. The report has already been sent to the Security Council. The United Nations has already offered Israel two options: either they start an investigation during the following six months or Israel will have to face international prosecution.

More on the Tsunami

I see that someone has already made a post on the Tsunami, but I’d like to add some new information. Since this natural disaster devastated Samoa and American Samoa, rescue workers have been looking for survivors, and planes have been carrying air supplies. The UN said it would send an emergency team to the Samoan islands, where villages were devastated and up to 145 people died. The Samoan Prime Minister said that devastation was complete, and that there were some villages in which no house was left standing after the waves that originated from last Tuesday’s earthquake reached the islands.

Liberalism vs. Realism or maybe both

Right after I left the classroom I opened my laptop and took a look at today's news. For my surprise I saw an interesting topic. The Article is called: "Iran has 'updated nuclear package'; ready to hold talks” And after reading it, it got me thinking that maybe the world has more liberals than we thought. In the UN they are seeking to get to an agreement in the limits of the nuclear program in Iran.

And why is Iran willing to talk to the UN? The only reason they are willing to talk to the UN is because Germany threaten Iran if they did not meet to talk and reach an agreement.

So it gets me thinking maybe we are not just Realist nor Idealist; but maybe just a combination of both. Is this really what we need right now?, or is it the future of International Relations.
