Poland agreed to host the new U.S. Missile Defence Plan
During the Bush administration, a plan was made to set a missile defense on the Czech Republic and Poland, this missile defense was made to defend Europe from Iran.
In This year the Obama administration scrapped the missile defense made by the Bush administration.
After this, Poland opposed because they suspected the new system was being designed to appease the Russians.
The Obama administration has made a new missile defense plan which Poland has accepted to host. The plan is supposed to defend against Short- and Medium-ranged missiles.
" "Our new phased adaptive approach to missile defense is designed to meet a growing threat not only to the United States, but first and foremost to Europe," Biden said. "It's going to meet it with proven technology that will cover more of Europe including Poland and will do it more efficiently than the previous system could have or did." " (CNN)
But why does Poland accept to host the missile defense plan?
it might be because with it they will have more military power and will have the support of the U.S.

A little bit more about the Lisbon Treaty
I must say I find it interesting how people spent so much time worrying about Ireland’s second referendum coming this October and that, as polls finally start to show a possible “yes” vote from the Irish, another challenge to the guaranteed unanimous decision over the treaty began to flourish— Czech Republic’s plan to delay their ratification until they see clear results from the Irish, that is.
A group of Czech senators are looking forward to file a complaint against the Lisbon Treaty and they would like the Constitutional Court to revise it and confirm there is no contradiction between the treaty and the constitution of the Czech Republic, backed up by the fear of losing, of course, the republic’s sovereignty (which they claim will be undermined), in order to proceed with the ratification. This process would take time and even moths until the final appeal is given and it looks like President Klaus is not willing to sign the ratification at any moment before he hears the final word from the Constitutional Court. This will unquestionably increase the nervousness of the European leaders and the people who has been waiting for quite some time for a resolution.
And in case Ireland, or Poland or the Czech Republic rejects the treaty… what would happen then? It would be a second failure for the reforms of the European Union. As anxiety grows in Europe, the uncertainty of the European Union’s future prevails and so it will continue if nations do not completely agree on the Lisbon treaty. Is it possible to continue growing as a community in the very same conditions? Maybe it is, but in a slower pace, I believe. But as long as that intense fear of losing power stays alive within the members, there will be no definite approach to a more integrated union.

WWII 70th Anniversary
I was reading today's news in CNN and came along some WWII news. It turns out that today is the 70th Anniversary of the Second World War, as it is generally held to be September 1, 1939. Just to let you know, in case you didn't already (like me). One of the articles talks about the commemoration of the anniversary in Poland. Also, while reading the articles I found how useful this class can be as, besides knowing more on the history of each war, they mentioned some important leaders that we saw in class today, one being the German chancellor Angela Merkel. Before today's class I didn't know her name and I didn't even know that Germany was governed by a woman, and I know more about some international leaders. Both articles talk about WWII in Poland, and has some testimonies from actual Polish WWII veterans. Here they are:
