Facebook founder is world’s youngest billionaire

*Mark Zuckerberg, the 23-year-old founder of social networking site Facebook, is the youngest ever self-made billionaire, according to an annual list published by Forbes magazine.

“He is the youngest billionaire in the world right now and we also believe he is the youngest self-made billionaire in history,” said the magazine’s Associate Editor Matthew Miller, unveiling this year’s super-rich list.

*It played down speculation that the site could be worth as much as 15 billion dollars, which was based on Microsoft paying 240 million dollars for a 1.6 percent stake in the company last year.

If I had a billion dollars, I could do so many things like travel or donate millions to save an endangered species or help poor people.

“Dialogues with Europe”

“I think that the EU with the Lisbon agenda has put the right emphasis on growth and employment.” (Angela Merkel)

With 27 member countries and a population of nearly half a billion, the European Union covers a large part of Europe. Since its creation, it has worked to bring prosperity and stability to its citizens. Its policies and actions affect us all directly and indirectly.

The main theme of the interesting conference given by Ambassador Mendel Chief Goldstein, leader of the delegation from the European Commission that work in México is the current and future relationship between Latin America, especially in México and Europe. The European Union is making a great effort to improve México and Latin America. The issues that were mentioned were the financial crisis, immigrants, political issues, trade and cooperation. In the other hand, Mendel C. said that most people think that their meetings are only to take the picture and that members don’t take it seriously, but actually they talked about very important issues that México is struggling like for example climate changes, reforms, fight criminal delinquency and money laundering.

He also said the reasons why the European Union IS interested in Latin America and particular in México and the reasons are because of their geographical position (between USA and Central America), territory, and change of politics because the past president Salinas looked ways to improve the economy.

We feel that the European integration with Mexico give a lot of advantages to our country in various ways, first of all, the social aspect for example: the EU help Chiapas’s government and support and capacitates the people working class like farmers. Then in the economic aspect, they support the market, helping little and medium companies to get closer to the European market. In Education and culture they want to increase scholarships, so Mexican students can go of interchange to Europe.
What do we discovered? This video makes us realized that México was the first country to establish a global agreement: free trade, politic dialogue and cooperation programs. Also, we learned that México have 9 years having a relation with the EU (since 2000) and that NAFTA don’t have political dialogue. And last but not least, we learned that México have 44 treaties with other countries. We feel proud of it! :)

We noticed that the Ambassador made little mistakes in Spanish with the pronunciation and he conjugated few words wrong, but overall he talks very good Spanish for being a German. Honestly, we were able to understand everything he said.
We wonder if the United States has this treaty with the European Union. We’d like to know more information about the Andina community and why the EU thinks that they would get to an agreement until 2010.
Questions were asked by the audience. Some of them were:
1) Do you think that having an impact in the short, medium or long term, development of missiles in Poland response to Russia-Georgia conflict if the main goal of EU is maintaining peace and stability?
2) What impact would if have in PESK?
3) What it would be the main feature if it would reach a comprehensive global agreement to be reached and what benefits would it had?
4) Which is the EU policy on immigration and more with the problems of creating needed jobs for Europeans?

To conclude, the goal of the EU is to form a region of freedom, security and justice. Freedom in this connection cannot be just the freedom of the strong, but it must be combined with fraternity and equality.

2012 EXPECTATIONS :)

2012 is expected to be year of great positive change. It is not the end of the world!!!! Back in 1899 something was identified called Schumann Cavity Resonance. It is the heart beat or frequency of the Earth. Since its discovery till 1986 this heart beat frequency was constant 7.8 Hertz per second. From 1986 it started to raise dramatically and in 1998 it was reported to be 10 hertz per second. On other hand magnetics of the earth are dropping dramatically and it is expected they will reach zero point in 2012. Maya calendar and other calendars end in 2012, but it is not the end of the world just beginning of the new one since every 26000 years Earth goes through grand cycle of evolution.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT CHINA!

China, the new emerging power has been the oldest continuous civilization on Earth, for the last 4000 years. Chinese flag is red which represents the blood spilled during the communist revolution. On the flag there is one large star, representing leadership, and four small stars which represent four social classes: capitalists, bourgeoisie, workers and peasants all united under one Communist Party. Some of the CHINESSE inventions: gunpowder, paper, printing, compass, porcelain, first paper currency, animal zodiac, cast iron, chopsticks, crossbow, toilet paper, collapsible umbrella, fork and many other cool inventions. Interesting fact about China is that in last three years growth of CHINESSE economy was around 10% per year making China the country with largest world economy. The funny fact is that China was in dispute with WTO (World Trade Organization) because of the extremely low taxes on their exports. However, United States was in the dispute with WTO because of the high taxes on U.S. imports. "We are committed to challenging China's WTO-inconsistent practices that harm American workers and businesses," said U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab.

KOREAN WAR

The Korean War took place within the period of 25th June, 1950 and 27th July, 1953. The battling parties included North Korea, with Chinese assistance about halfway through, and South Korea along with the United Nations. The subject of the battle was communism. Over 3 million lives were lost. However, the war prevented communism to enter the boundaries of South Korea. It marked the beginning of the infamous Cold War. It is often referred to as "The Forgotten War", because of its occurrence which was just after World War 2, and just prior to the Vietnam War.

A pill for longer life?

**Rapamycin is a drug commonly used in humans to prevent transplanted organs from being rejected. Scientifics has discovered that this drug extend the lives of mice by up to 14% even when given to the mice late in life.
**In flies and worms, drug treatments have been shown to prolong lifespan, but until now, the only robust way to extend life in mammals has been to heavily restrict diet.

What is Europe Day?

In Panorama classs, the teacher said something that got my attetion: THE EUROPE DAY!

* You may have come across a reference in a diary or elsewhere to the fact that 9 May is "Europe Day" and perhaps asked about its significance.

* Probably very few people in Europe know that on 9 May 1950 the first move was made towards the creation of what is now known as the European Union.

* On the 9th of May 1950, Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations.

* This proposal, known as the "Schuman declaration", is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union.

* Today, the 9th of May has become a European symbol (Europe Day) which, along with the flag, the anthem, the motto and the single currency (the euro), identifies the political entity of the European Union. Europe Day is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and peoples of the Union closer to one another.

* Every country which democratically chooses to accede to the European Union endorses its fundamental values of peace and solidarity.

* Today's ambition is completely different: to build a Europe which respects freedom and the identity of all of the people which compose it. Only by uniting its peoples can Europe control the mastery of its destiny and develop a positive role in the world.

* The European Union is at the service of its citizens. While keeping their own specific values, customs and language, European citizens should feel at ease in the "European home".

What has globalization done for Mexico?

*In the case of NAFTA, the benefits flowing to Mexico seem to have resulted more from the general liberalization of trade and investments than directly from NAFTA, as such. That is, the general liberalization of trade and investments that accompanied NAFTA led to a general increase in Mexican exports and inflows of FDI, which increased specialization, competition, productivity and efficiency in Mexico. But the increase in total Mexican exports and FDI inflows from the rest of the world was as large or larger than that from the United States.

*Furthermore, most of the (indirect) benefits that Mexico received from NAFTA occurred in the years immediately preceding the creation of NAFTA rather than in the years soon after its creation.

*Mexico was unable to capture more of the potential benefits from NAFTA or for a longer period of time because of the economic crisis that afflicted Mexico in 1994-1995, the slowdown of U.S. growth in 2000 and recession in 2001, increased competition from China, but most importantly because Mexico failed to adequately restructure and liberalize its economy and improve the education and training of its labor force.

My reflection of the Afghan Girl

The Afghan Girl

"We've known her face, but we've not known her story, not even her name." This story started when Steve McCurry, a photographer took a picture to an Afghan girl in the refugee camp in Pakistan. Later, she appeared in National Geographic magazine in 1985. Her unforgettable green eyes could tell and express everything. Her looked summed the horror and the suffering she was living because of war. Her face represented Afghanistan's pain.
The mysterious Afghan girl captivated not only National Geographic readers but also anyone who saw her image around the world. People were inspired and motivated with that image. They decided to help people from war. All this made her to be one of the world's most famous faces and she didn´t knew it. She symbolized the suffering of an entire generation of Afghan people living the worst times in life; war.
If we compare México from Afghanistan we could find lots of differences and similarities. I think that Mexicans would have reacted the same like Afghan people. Why? For example, if a photographer comes and asks if someone knows this “Mexican girl”, most of the population would answer: “Oh is my mother, is my friend, I am this girl etc.” The same like Afghan people did. Mexicans would have answered that the girl already died or that she went to another place like most of Afghan’s did. Also Mexicans would have given them information to try to help them find the girl.
Culture is totally different in all countries, specially between México and Afghanistan. México has more freedom than Afghanistan and in México is allowed to do more things than in Afghanistan. It would have been easier for the photographer to find a “Mexican girl” because in our society it is allowed that men meet woman at their homes. No matters if the husband is not at home. They don’t need any permission from their husband or family as in Afghanistan. What really matters here is that the woman wants to meet strange people. It’s her decision if she receives and allows someone entered her house. We only need to respect her decision. Also because in Afghanistan all women have to cover their face with a veil; it’s part of their culture. And in México we can dress like we want. The use of veils in Afghan´s woman complicated the search because it was more difficult to recognize the girl. Mexicans girls are free to wear all kinds of clothes. They can wear, skirts, short dresses, pants etc. On the other hand in Afghanistan, woman
by rule must wear dresses or long dressing-gowns that cover the whole body.
One thing I can conclude, war is not acceptable in México and in Afghanistan. Nobody would like to live in a world full of sadness, depression, deaths, destruction and loneliness. Every war is a destruction of the human spirit that’s why people read sadness and desperation in the Afghan girl face. War is the end of dreams and hopes. Hopefully, humans have the capacity to recover from misfortunes just like the Afghan girl did.

PD: no war!!!!

International News Events week 3 (final project)

We are proud of been Mexicans, so we are celebrating it. But talking about news... tension is happening in Xinjiang. All began because “Hans”, an ethnic group from China took the streets of Urumqi. Uyghur’s are attacking and killing people with pins, needles and sharp objects. This problem is because people protest against government and the violence in the country.
But in the other hand, in the world news hopes were high at the start of 2008 in the global financial system. Economy is booming in American countries and world firms find themselves better placed than they expected.

GLOBALIZATION: good or bad?

"[Globalization] can be incredibly empowering and incredibly coercive. It can democratize opportunity and democratize panic." - Thomas Friedman

I can compare globalization with fire... WHHYYY?

Fire itself is neither good nor bad. Used properly, it can cook food, sterilize equipment, form iron, and heat our homes. Used carelessly, fire can destroy lives, towns and forests in an instant.
The same happens with globalization. It can bring tremendous opportunities and benefits IF WE GIVE IT THE CORRECT USE.

Globalization or Cultural Imperialism

THE GREAT DEBATE

GLOBALIZATION:describes an ongoing process by which regional economies, societies and cultures have become integrated through a globe-spanning network of exchange. The term is sometimes used to refer specifically to economic globalization: the integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and the spread of technology.[

CULTURAL IMPERIALISM: is the practice of promoting, distinguishing, separating, or artificially injecting the culture of one society into another. It is usually the case that the former belongs to a large, economically or militarily powerful nation and the latter belongs to a smaller, less important one.

Research of News week 1 (Partial Proyect)

Histories of China relate the huge scale of local corruption and lack of consideration of China´s government was the “feeling of people” don´t care. Sadly, this type of things occurs in China. Li Shimming, a corrupt and unmoral local Communist Party secretary beated Wang Hou so badly, so he was hospitalized. Li Shimming also attacked a little boy, who spent four months in hospital with injuries including a broken hip bone. Li Shimming was very aggressive with them only because they were digging up the crops on his land. Many people in the area hated this local secretary. Li Shimming’s way of trying to solve his problems was wrong.
In conclusion with this relevant notice there´s no doubt that all the members of Communist Parties misused their power. They used their influences to treat citizens as they want. They don´t respect the individual rights of all the citizens. Also it is not correct that citizens don´t have the right to express their feelings and thoughts with the freedom that deserve because after all they are humans.
In the other hand, in this days because of the Economic Crisis the employment rate in young people has been decreasing and this is very bad because they are not getting experience and they are not prepare for their next jobs. Another thing is that young people that are finishing school, if they get a job, it is not matching with their studies and what they prepared for. And with all that this involves all of the students are more likely to be in the Economic Limbo, and we are not going to be able to get over this Economic Crisis.

Researh on News from week 2 (Partial Proyect)

Liberal Party has all the possibilities to win these 2009 elections in Japan. They are ready for a change and start progressing to get out of this crisis they are living through. We think that a change can be a great opportunity for the people in Japan. In this moment Japan has a lot of abilities and they are very organized, they only need a good government to guide them. Japan has always been a great country and with this new opportunity they can be even better. IN the other hand nobody expected that France and Germany are one of the only countries that with time have recovered from the economic crisis very well. Meanwhile, Spain and Italy are having lots of problems with trading with other countries. Both countries are depending a lot from China and the thing is that China has been growing faster that any other country in technology and also in their economy. With all this at the end all European countries will be depending in China… Do you think China could became a potential country?

The World without money!!!

Nowadays, money is one of the most important things for most people. The true is that if you don't have money, you can hardly survive. With money we get everything we need to live, in few words WE ALL DEPEND ON MONEY!!
But.. can you imagine what would happen if all the world's money disappeared?????

I think that would be the best solution for all the problems that there are right now in this world, especially with this economic crisis. Why? Because I think that humans most of the time are worried about money and most of their problems are about money, for example people fight each other just for money, people died just because they didn't have enough money to buy food or to pay a doctor etc.
Countries will not be in wars because money would not be important and powerful. We would live in a safer place. People would be happier and could live with peace and calm.

In my opinion, all problems come from money. I know it sounds like something impossible, but dreaming about a perfect life isn't bad either.
What do you think?

Realists vs Liberals

Definitions

1. When realists observe the world system, they see primarily states struggling for power, each trying to consolidate its relative gains in a zero-sum game. The structure of the international system is thus rooted in this struggle, which is why realists contemplate little or no change in the structure of the international system.

2. A liberal, on the other hand, sees interdependence in the world system, a system in which every state cooperates on some level with other states. This cooperation is facilitated by institutions and established norms as it ensures that every state maximizes its gains. Absolute gains, therefore, rather than relative gains, are the focus of liberals.

México is not that bad.. =)

In think that México could be one of the richest countries because one of the richest man in the world is Mexican. The problems is that there is still a lot of poverty in the country. Here in México the riches are not well balanced.
We can say that Mexico is poorer than USA or Canada, but is a richer than El Salvador or maybe Haiti!!
Be proud of it=) We also have positive things for example: Mexico it´s a beautiful place to live, it´s food is deliciuos, we have beaches ;)
