Newspapers all around the world are now providing an alternative future for the European Union, different to the one thought to be having Tony Blair as president. Remember he was the one most likely to occupy the post? Well, now it seems he will have more competition since during last Brussels' summit, President Sarkozy announced the possibility of another candidate for the job. Rumours indicate some possible leaders that might occupy the pesidency:

• Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Jean-Claude Juncker
• Dutch Prime Minister, Jan Peter Balkenende
• Chancellor of Austria, Wolfgang Schüssel
• Prime Minister of Belgium, Herman Van Rompuy

Rumours have also spread concerning who will be the "foreign minister" once the Lisbon Treaty is completely ratified. David Miliband's name has come to be the most mentioned in this topic, though he has said he is neither a candidate nor is he avaible for the foreign minister role.
Slowly but surely, the Lisbon Treaty is approaching its final approval. Klaus has already said he will no longer stop the ratification course of the Lisbon Treaty, anymore. The Czech Republic will give its final say this November. And as this day comes closer, we'll be surely receiving news of how the new European Union begins to be build, for it is expected to have both the Foreign Minister and Presidency working by January 1st.

President of the EU

Anthony Charles Lynton Blair, best known as Tony Blair was the prime minister of Britain from May of 1997 to June 2007. Also he was a member of the parliament from 1983 to 2007 and Leader of the Labour Party from 1994 to 2007. It is said that Blair is the Labour Party’s longest serving Prime Minister. He had been the only person in the Labour Party to win 3 consecutive general elections, and also He had been the only Labour Prime Minister to serve consecutive term, ones were of more than four years long. As we can see he has a really good politician profile.
The ex-prime minister of Britain is the leading candidate to become the first President of the European Union. This is a point of the Lisboan Treaty that would come formalize in 2009 if every country is in favor just if all the countries accept it. Czech Republic is one if the countries that haven’t accept this treaty.
Blair has the support of many countries like France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Lithuania, Slovenia, Hungary and obviously Britain. The French president, Nicolas Sarkozy, was the first one to propose that Blair have to be the first president. The president of Spain, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapartero, accept that Blair became the president of Europe, but obviously he prefer that Felipe Gonzalez, the ex president of Spain, take this position. Gonzalez said that he didn’t want this president job.
He also counts with countries that are against his president of the European Union. Some if these countries are Austria, Luxembourg and Belgium. Angela Merkel doesn’t like the idea of Blair being the president of the European Union.
