North Korea

The article we read in class is not the first one I read about North Korea. In this article the author kept positive compared to the other article. He said that Christianity can be the solution for a unified Korea. Reading that North Koreans can’t access to anything such as internet, trips, books, or a “normal” education seriously freaked me out. For me one of the most impressive stuff I read about is that they have like their own god, which was actually a person and their head of state his name was Kim Il Sung, they still worship him all times and call him “The Great Leader”. They also have 10 commandments like Christians do and worship also his son Kim Jong Il like Christians worship Jesus.

Korea is bordered in the northern side by China, and Russia, that’s why North Korea adopted the communist position. By the other side, South Korea was occupied by the USA that’s why they went better for the democratic position. In 1950 they had a civil war to unify the Koreas, North Korea invaded South Korea during three years, well actually we can say that officially the was isn’t over yet. That war turned to be USA, South Korea and 16 more nations vs. North Korea, Russia, and China. They had no peace treaty but they did have an armistice. South Korea became an international power, but North Koreas has declined in the economic perspective, also they live in poverty and starvation.

As I said above, the population is ignorant of what is happening in the world. I read in the other article that they can’t change of village or visit other cities. Obviously getting out of North Korea for normal people is impossible, and when the state people gets out they are prohibited from telling other people how the world is outside North Korea. Tourists can’t access North Korea, or have you ever seen a promotion to North Korea in any travel agency? Then the mass media is controlled by the government and they only transmit negative news form the world. Foreign books and photographs are forbidden. Every North Korean is monitored by the surveillance system. Disloyalty to the Great Leader is criticized and punished, and the prisoners are taken to a camp for political prisoners, from where they say very few come back.

This author keeps positive talking that religion can unify the Koreas. He proved the statement by talking about some Christians missioners that went to help the population.

Atlantis and Crew Prepare for Flight

The STS-129 mission is the new mission of the Atlantis. Atlantis and its crew will deliver two control moment gyroscopes and Express Logistics Carrier 1 and 2 to the international Space Station. This mission will feature three spacewalks.
         The mission will be commanded by Chares o. Hubaugh and piloted by Barry E. Wilmore. The specialists are Robert L. Satcher Jr., Mike Foreman, Randy Bresnik and Leland Melvin. Wilmore, Satcher and Bresnik are novice in space trips, this will be their first space trip in their lives!
         Atlantis will also return Nicole Stott to Earth, who is part of the station’s crew. It is slated to be the final space shuttle crew rotation flight. Atlantis will launch on the STS-129 mission at 2:28pm EST Nov. 16.

They Test a New Vaccine for Malaria in Africa

A new vaccine that is capable of preventing Malaria in a 50% of the kids is being subject of the last tests. If the proves succeed and the vaccine works in kids, the first vaccine for a human parasite will be in the market within the next 3 to 5 years.

Every year about tenths of millions of people are affected by Malaria. More than one third of the hospital beds in the hospital of Kenya are used to help these victims. More than a million of kids die in Africa because of this parasite.

This vaccine is only and exclusively for the African stump. Experts predict that the success of the vaccine will lead to a historical progress.

Twitter Against Crime

Today, if you want to walk undercover in Old Oaks neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio; you can’t because someone will be watching… sounds scary but is what the neighbors had to do in order to fight crime. The neighbors organized themselves and made guarding groups. When a car passes by a neighbor will get the license plate number and will twitter the number to their neighbor like “Hey be careful, a white Ford Explorer with No.12345 is passing by”; if none identified person is passing by another neighbor will text “A tall guy is passing by the sidewalk A” or something like that.  This is a method they had to use because the agencies of guards are charging a lot for the service because they had to reduce the employees because of the crisis

First Aniversary of the United States President

The first Afro-American president in the history of the United States turns 1 year old in his charge as the head of state of the most powerful country of the world. Even though a year as passed, he hasn’t lose the faith of people and his popularity.  He has the 54% of the support of the population of his country.

Some of the polls throw that he is more popular than his policies.  Even though he has more than the 50% approval , a majority of the American disapproves the way he is taking the economy, the health reformation, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the unemployment, the immigration and the federal deficit stated CNN.

Civilian Deaths are Reported In Congo

A group in charged of defending the human rights acused some Congan soldiers of killing more than 500 civilians in East Congo.  They also mentioned that the United Nations’ force of maintaining the peace didn’t do anything to prevent the decapitation of the civilians and the rape of the girls.

The Human Rights Watch stated that the Monuc, said that they will suspend their military assistance to all army that would be involved in the deaths of more than 62 civilians between the months of May and September.

Peru

I realized that they were some shaky days for the south emisphere. Well, Peru was also shaked by an earthquake 5.6. It was also felt in Chile and Bolivia, eventhough no damages nor deaths are reported.  It is the 11th earthquake registered in Peru this month. Unfurtainly Peru is located in the Fire Belt. which is located in the pacific ocean where the 85% of the sismic activity is reported world wide.

US Economy

 United States economy went down a .7% rate between April and June. Eventhough is a lot it was .3 less form the estimated form the USA's government predicted. This definetly math of the PIB for the second trimester of the 2009, published today by the Comerce Department, is lower than the forecasts the analist gave. They said they were expecting a contraction of 1 to 1.2 %

Happy 60th communist birthday China!

Tomorrow is China's big day. It will turn 60 years of being under the communist regime. October 1 will be the date when the leaders are going to speak to the country. All turistic places are being closed in order to have the most espectacular and secure celebrity. Tons of soldiers are guarding the forbidden city and other places to pretect the integrity of the places untill tomorrow military huge festival. It is said that this celebration will be as awesome or more as the Olympic games.

Indonesia

A tsunami attacks again Indonesia. Rescatists were looking for survivors in American Samoa and West Samoa after a series of Tsunamis attked the island.  An earthquake of 8 magnitud provoque waves of 6 meters high that destroyed pretty much everything leaving 100 death people. Today's afternoon another earthquake of 7 alrted again the hole community because it might form again more series of waves. President Barak Obama is sendin troops to help Amercian Samoa which belongs to the USA (not geographically speaking).

Who will take the Olympics?

I know several of my classmates are talking about it. The news is that Rio de Janerio or Chicago will take the olympic games of 2016.

Both Brasil and USA are countries with lots of famous atletes. It will be interesting to see who wins; both citites are amazing so either one will be great. Ok, when we will se Mexico in the fight? Mexico is also an amazing country wiht lots of cities that can be used as olympic villages. I know we don't have as much found as them or maybe we are not that advances, but we are neutral country, we have connections with almost all the world, I mean why not? It will be very interesting and gratificant to see Mexico fighting for the 2020 olympic games, It will be amazing and fore sure I'll go!

Stress

Now a days teenages are dealing with an overloaded schedule. Not only with school but with their extra-curricular classes. Some factors are: academic pressure and dealing with taking decisions toward our carrer, fashion pressure, peer-pressure to take drugs or other stuff. pressure to fit in, adapt to body changes, family and peer conflicts, overloading in activities. Stress can cause us many illnesses that's why we have to take care and not overloead our schedules, choose priorities and make our choises without thinking in what others would say. The most important is to sleep 8 hours at least.

Space Station

Today the space crew is resting from their work. The Discovery crew is packing to come back home. Mean while the Japanese space ship is expected to arrive tomorrow afternoon to leave a load.  Discovery comes back to Earth next tuesday and they are bringing back Specialist Tim Kopra. He will be sustituded with another specialist who will be working in space for the next 3 months.

09/11 8 years after the tragedy

This Friday September 11 will be 8 years after the terrorist attack of the Twin Towers. Last Monday I was watching the History Channel and saw one of the best documentaries ever made from that date. It was about the same thing but this time all the data and all the facts and the chronology of the situation was emited by some guests and receptionist from the hotel that was just infront of the world trade center. It was very nice to see how the people that survived that tragedy was so greatful to God and the firefighters who helped that day. 

Something that touched me was a lady in wheel-chair that even though she coudln't walk or move quickly she managed to save her self, and also to find her mom that separated from her when all the people were running and the second tower fell down.
Then an architect that was going to have an interview in the hotel, didn't realized was happening untill he saw a lady burning, he helped her and tooke her to a hospital, they are pictures of him helping her, after he tooked her to the hospital he kept communicating with her untill they told him she was dead.

The last thing was this lawyer who refused to pack quickly to move out of the hotel because he ignored the gravity of the situation. When he noticed he was the only guest in that area and that almost all his part of the hotel was vanished from the map, he cried for help and a firefighter that was looking for on of his men heard him and helped him crawl out of the bulding. While he got all the help he relized that that thay could be his last one and he woulnd't be in his daughters wedding untill his hero came. The lawyer invated the firefighter to the wedding and wrote him greeting notes.

Confusion among the central powers: because of the lack of communications Austria-Hungary and Germany suffered misunderstandings. Germany said that he would support Austria-Hungary but A-H misundertood that promise, so he invaded Serbia but Gemrany was busy so he had to divide the army and gained Russia as an enemy.

African Campaigns: Britain, France and Germany had colonies in Africa. British and French colonies, faught with the British and French troops against the German colonies in Africa untill the war ended.

Serbian Campaign: Serbians had to defend from the Austrian attacks. They occupided defensive positions in south Drina and Sana. Austrians threw back with big losses and had to deal with the angry Russians.

Cuban Missile Crisis

Nikita Khrushchev considered in May 1962 to put some nuclear missiles in Cuba, to compete with the leadership with the  United States with the fabrication and using strategic missiles. Such in 1961 the United States made a non successful sopnsored-invasion in Bay of Pigs, Nikita also presented a conspiration as a mean of protection in case of the USA wanted to try another invasion in Cuba.
