Afghan Elections: NEW PRESIDENT

Yesterday after Abdullah Abdullah, former Presidential Candidate for Afghanistan, pulled himself out of the elections, a resolution has been made. Hamid Karzai has been declared the new President of Afghanistan. The reason Abdullah stepped back shortly after the first round was that he considered the elections as being fraudalent. This left Karzai as the only candidate for the post. In an attempt to save money, the second round of elections was cancelled, automatically declaring Hamid as President. Other arguments to support this decision were the insecurity of the first round elections and to prevent the destabilization in the country.
We can observe US intervention as they commented on their acceptance on the elections´result and expressed their wish to communicate with Mr. Karzai.
