NATO

NATO stands for North Atlantic Treaty Organization. This is a military affair between the countries, where if an external attack is going to happen, they are going to defend collectively. This organization was created in April 4, 1949 as a result of threats by the Soviet Union and his allies against the USA with west Europe (Germany,Spain,England,France, etc). The outbreak of the Korean War in 1950 was crucial for NATO as it raised the apparent threat level forcing the alliance to develop concrete military plans.

As countries started to join this alliance, the Soviet Union proposed to unify to this alliance in 1954, to preserve peca ein Europe and with the USA. The NATO countries, fearing that the Soviet Union's motive was to weaken the alliance, ultimately rejected this proposal.
This led to the creaton of the Warsal Pact, created in 1955 by the Soviet Union and his allies (Poland,Bulgaria,Romania,ALbania and East Germany) in respond to this event.
