World War III?

I came along this interesting article (could be called a blog post) about humans and their tendency to compare each other and fight. It analyses past wars and their motivations, and it even says that a World War III could be imminent, mainly because of human nature and countries' urge for power and money. It also talks about strong countries, pointing out that the next war could be led by China and the US, as the former sees China's economic and power rise as a threat. The article even mentions one quote we talked about in the first class (if I remember correctly), regarding the next world war. Its a good read. Also, I liked the webpage; it covers from politics and history to movies and book reviews. I recommend you to take a look.

I liked the link you provided us but you forgot to mention an intersting point of view in the publication. Nowadays consesus is reached by mutual agreement with talks and the use of diplomacy.
It is good to take in consideration that sometimes talking the problems out sometimes provokes more problems.
So let's hope that the secretaries of Foreign affairs around the world have the capacity to deal with those inconveniences.

I believe there has been a lot of speculation about the probability of a Third World War, maybe since the Second World War was over. It is true what the article says: humans’ uncontrollable desire for power has led to catastrophic events in history. But is it really unmanageable? Under any circumstances, I think humans would naturally seek for peace, before power and control. Perhaps our history classes have not been the best example of this last idea… but thinking about it more deeply you can see each moment in time supports the idea, in the end. You can have power, but if there is no stability, what’s the sense in that? I personally wouldn’t be able to bear having every person of the world obeying me, knowing and fearing simultaneously that they might rebel against me any time soon, and follow and endless cycle of substitution of powerful authorities. Maybe I just resist to the idea of man being stupid enough to create another war when he is aware of the devastating consequences this would generate. We already have a registry of terrene hell from just a few years ago. If anything, humanity should go forward— war would be like taking trillions of steps back.
Luckily, I feel that the world we are living in is not willing to create another great war in a near future. Despite the fact that there are some tensions and problems among the countries, attempts for dialogue and negotiations are always the first option in today’s world. It is possible for small wars to burst during the next years, but I doubt they will meet the intensity of the two World Wars.

Here is another link suggesting a Third World War by focusing mainly on the latest decisions of the American government:

I agree with you Sarahi and Cynthia. We don't know what will cause the ww3 or how people will react, but if this happen it is obvious that we're going to die. I know it is a pessimist form of thinking but imagine just one new nuclear bomb.. it will be catastrophic. See this video this is what will happen.

I don’t know if there is going to be another world war because our leaders have learned from history (World Wars), and I think they would try to not make the same mistakes again, like in the past. But I think that if economy and the problems between countries like United States and Iraq stay like this, then maybe it could start a new one. And I agree with Iván, it could kill us easily because of the technology and weapons.

Many times have we been close to a World War III, fortunately every time the conflicts end with an agreement. One day we will not be this fortunate. I think that one of the main players in this war will be North Korea.
If you think of it, if this war starts by nuking other countries, it will last no more than 15 minutes, it will be the shortest world war.
I read the other day that powerful countries aren't satisfied with having nukes, but they are trying to make anti-matter weapons.
